School Focus Helper extension 3.1.0 | 27 October 2026
Purpose and visibility
This Chrome extension supports visible, scheduled school-focus monitoring on a Windows PC. It requires a separately installed and paired Windows companion. It is not a standalone service and does not bypass school or browser administrator restrictions. A parent or guardian setting it up should have authority to do so and explain the monitoring to the child.
What the extension processes
During a monitoring session, Chrome exposes page URLs to the extension so it can extract hostnames. The extension sends only the hostname, browser selection, event kind, event time, session identifier and, for eligible navigations, navigation type and top-frame indicator. It does not send the full URL, page path, query string, fragment, page contents, titles, passwords, screenshots, audio or video.
Hostnames can still reveal sensitive interests or identify a person. Eligible top-level navigations may be reported from background tabs. Resources, subframes and identified automatic client redirects are filtered; the extension cannot perfectly identify human intent for every browser navigation.
When sharing occurs
Before reporting, the extension requires an explicit agreement and pairing key, then checks that the Windows app says monitoring is active. It does not send domain events outside the companion’s active schedule, before agreement or after disconnecting. It requests no microphone, camera or page-content permissions. Private windows are disabled for this extension.
Where information goes
The extension communicates only with http://127.0.0.1:8765 on this PC, using the pairing key and extension ID. This loopback HTTP connection does not itself send information across the Internet.
The Windows companion is separate software. It writes local domain reports, considers foreground application names, and can send parent-configured Telegram alerts. Alerts may include a distraction domain or application, computer name, time, and missing-reporting notice. Telegram is a third party and processes these messages under its own terms and privacy policy. The extension does not contact Telegram directly.
This extension contains no publisher-operated analytics, advertising, cloud reporting endpoint or remote executable code. That does not mean all information stays on the PC: configured companion alerts use Telegram, and a parent can export or retrieve reports separately.
Local storage and retention
Chrome local extension storage holds the pairing key, selected browser and agreement version. It does not store a browsing-history database or use Chrome sync storage. Uninstalling the extension removes its extension storage. Disconnect clears the pairing key and agreement; the browser selection can remain.
Protected Windows companion reports are retained for 30 days by default, subject to the configured retention period. A parent administrator can export reports. Uninstalling the companion retains its configuration and reports for manual administrator removal. Removing the extension does not delete companion reports or Telegram messages. Exported copies and Telegram messages require separate deletion.
Controls and questions
The extension’s Options page has a Disconnect button. Chrome also allows removal subject to administrator policy. The Windows app may send a coverage alert when reporting stops. A parent controls the schedule, pauses, extra homework and alert configuration through Windows administrator approval.
For local report access or deletion, contact the parent or administrator controlling the PC. For questions about this software, contact its publisher through the support details on its Chrome Web Store listing. Do not send pairing keys, Telegram tokens or browsing reports in public support messages.
Limited use
The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Domain activity is used for the disclosed school-focus feature, not advertising, sale of browsing information or unrelated profiling.
